Olivia Anderson, contributor.
My name is Olivia Anderson, and I’m 18 years old. I was born and raised in Southern California, a place I’ve always loved, but lately, I can’t help feeling furious about the state of things here. The crime, corruption, drug abuse, and homelessness have turned what was once a beautiful place into something so much less.
I try to carry myself with respect and maturity, and I dress traditionally because that’s what makes me feel comfortable and confident. Politically, I don’t fit neatly into any box. I think the two-party system limits us, and I wish there were more options that truly represented what people need.
When it comes to my beliefs, I’m a mix of conservative and progressive ideas. I need a new party, one that apparently doesn’t exist yet.
I was asking some people what I should write about in my bio. This is what they came up with:
Social Issues: I believe in LBGTQIA+ rights, but I don’t think biological males should compete in female sports. I support the death penalty in general and principle, however I do not have much faith in the American criminal justice system.
Immigration & Borders: I’m against illegal immigration and think we need strong borders to protect our country. I believe the people should come in the right way, they should ask permission and be vetted.
Crime & Spending: I believe we need to be tougher on crime, less lenient on drugs and I think America needs to fix its own problems before spending so much money on other countries.
Climate Change: I believe in natural climate cycles, I also think it’s possible that humans can cause some weather changes, but I also think corrupt politicians and businesses have hijacked the issue for their own gain.
Religion: I don’t believe in any gods, but I’ll admit I have a little belief in the supernatural, however I’m not convinced. I wouldn’t mind seeing a ghost.
What’s Important To Me: I care very deeply about animals, especially birds. I have two cockatiels, Marty and Marta, and they bring me so much joy.
When I’m not selling over priced fancy drinks, you’ll probably find me surfing or skateboarding. I’m currently learning to ski, but as there’s no snow in SoCal, I’m finding it difficult. This is the way I escape, it’s when I feel most free and alive.
Lately, I’ve realized how much I love storytelling, sharing my thoughts and uncovering the truth, so I’ve decided to explore journalism. I want to use my pen and keyboard to shed light on the issues I’m passionate about.
I graduated from high school this year. I haven’t decided if I’m going to enroll in higher education. Is college or university even important anymore? I just don’t know if it’s worth it. I might take a year or so and travel around Europe. I’ll miss M&M. We will see.
Whatever I end up doing, I really want to make a difference, somewhere, somehow, whether it’s through my writing, my actions, or just staying true to what I believe in. I’d like to lead by example. Does this mean I want to be a leader? I have no idea.
Thank you for taking the time to read my little biography.
